Kuiper Belt

The Kuiper Belt is a region in our solar system located beyond the orbit of Neptune, about 30 to 50 astronomical units (AU) from the sun. It is named after Dutch-American astronomer Gerard Kuiper, who predicted the existence of such a belt in 1951. The Kuiper Belt is composed of many small icy bodies, including dwarf planets like Pluto and Haumea, as well as comets, asteroids, and other small objects. Some of these bodies are thought to be remnants from the era of solar system formation, and studying them can provide insights into the early solar system. The discovery of the Kuiper Belt has led to a greater understanding of the objects in our solar system and how they formed. It has also fueled ongoing research and exploration into the small bodies of our solar system, with several missions planned to study them in more detail, such as NASA's New Horizons and the upcoming Europa Clipper mission.
